HISTORY
We are one of a few pecan orchards planted in the state of Illinois. We started planting our pecan orchard in the fall of 2006. We have 50 acres of pecan trees and almost 1,000 trees. It took us four years to plant all the trees which are improved and northern varieties. We have 12 different varieties of pecan trees in the orchard.
This far north, the pecan trees grow slower due to the shorter days, plus a shorter growing season. Even though we had a few pecans after three years, it takes about ten years before the trees go into commercial production.
We have mechanized equipment to work in the orchard: tree shaker, harvester, cleaner, dryer, and a room dedicated to cracking and shelling pecans.

OWNERS - STAN AND DIANE BARNES
Stan and Diane Barnes, owners of Southern Illinois Pecan Company both grew up on a farm. Stan was raised on a row crop farm in NE Arkansas. He always enjoyed the farm life. Diane grew up on a row crop and cattle farm in southern Illinois, where she, her mother, and her sister worked along side her father on the family farm.
After Stan retired from a large equipment company, he yearned to return to the farm. Following two and a half years of research on growing pecans, Southern Illinois Pecan Company was founded.
